Choose Your Sleep Cycle from 5 cycles

Introduction

Sleep cycles are divided based on hours and the number of naps taken in 24 hours. Generally, humans are awake in the day and sleep at night. Some genius people like Leonardo da Vinci and Nikola Tesla are following different sleep cycles which were very helpful to make spare time for exploring new knowledge.

After doing some practice of the sleep cycle, the body of humans gets habituated to the same. One can choose the sleep cycle according to the time and work you have in a whole day.

Generally, the sleep cycle is divided into…..

  • Monophasic Cycle
  • Biphasic Cycle
  • Everyman Cycle
  • Dymaxion Cycle
  • Uberman Cycle

Monophasic Cycle:

People generally take 7-8 hours of sleeping time at night. This sleeping method is known as Monophasic Cycle and that is the most convenient sleep cycle for those people who are working 9-5 hours. There are no naps in this cycle.

Pros :

  • Flexibility in sleeping hours
  • Less sleeping problems
  • Easy to adapt

Cons:

  • The required large amount of time
  • Sleep without interception
  • No nap
  • Not suitable for late-night professions

Best suited to:

  • Those who are working regular 9-5 hours
  • People, who don’t want to nap
  • Students, who want to study during the day

Biphasic Sleep Cycle:

There are two sleeping patterns in this cycle. The first is around 5-6 hours at night and the last one is approx 2 hours of sleep in the day(preferable in mid-day). This sleeping pattern is famous in some areas for instance Mediterranean or Latin America. Napping time(in the middle of the day)  gives advantages including an energy boost on the day and also improves memory and cognitive function.

Pros:

  • Improve cardiovascular health and reduce stress
  • Can provide a boost on tiring or sleeping-deprived days
  • Improve memory
  • Improve cognitive function
  • Improve efficiency at work

Cons:

  • More naps are bad habits
  • Sleep hours should continue

Best suited to:

  • People ling in areas where this is common
  • Those that have no trouble sleeping at night as a result of daytime napping

Polyphasic sleep( The Everyman Sleep Cycle):

The Everyman sleep cycle consists of 3.5 – 4 hours of sleep with three 20-minute naps in the day. This cycle provides more waking hours compared to polyphasic sleep. Although, it has fewer waking hours compared to Uberman of the Dymaxion cycle which is very hard to achieve. This sleep cycle may lead to sleep deprivation, as it consists of a full sleep time of just 4 and a half hours.

Pros:

  • Long waking hours
  • Naps are brief
  • Enormous flexibility is napping once adapted

Cons:

  • Daytime napping is still required
  • Minimal sleeping time

Best suited to:

  • People who don’t feel able to handle the Uberman or Dymaxion cycle.
  • Those who want to use polyphasic sleep to increase waking hours.

Polyphasic Sleep(The Dymaxion Sleep Cycle)

The Dymaxion sleep cycle consists of 4 naps of 30 minutes throughout the day. This might also be beneficial for those who can fall asleep quickly once they get to bed. This cycle is the best for those who prioritize efficiency and oversleeping. however, sleeping for 30 minutes 4 times a day is likely to be very difficult for scheduling.

Pros:

  • Most waking hours of an
  • Total 2 hours of sleep
  • 4 times 30min naps

Cons:

  • Most difficult cycle to adapt to.
  • longer naps are less convenient for scheduling

Best suited to:

  • People who don’t require/want much sleep
  • Those with the DEC2 gene-‘short sleepers’

Polyphasic Sleep(The Uberman Sleeping Cycle)

The Uberman consists of 6-8 equidistant naps across the day each lasting 20 minutes. This is generally those who don’t perform continuous work for more than 3.5 hours. Polyphasic sleep has quick naps, each has 20 minutes. So, only 2 hours of sleep is taken in a day. The challenging task is to be able to quickly fall asleep anywhere. This sleep cycle is followed by the great Leonardo da Vinci & Nikola Tesla.

Pros:

  • You can quickly fall asleep anywhere when you fully adapted
  • Only 2 hours of sleep in a day
  • waking time is more.
  • All naps are only 20 minutes

Cons:

  • Inflexible in sleeping and waking time
  • Not ideal for social life
  • Difficult to adapt

Best suited to:

  • Those who can follow a rigid schedule
  • Those we do not perform activities that require longer than 3.5 hr

In a nutshell, the best sleep cycle is whatever works for you, it depends on your lifestyle and work. It is very important that you still get enough sleep, Whatever you choose. I recommend you get roughly 6-8 hours of sleep at night. (Albert Einstein used to take 10 hours of sleep in a day). If you want to 5 steps for quality sleep click here.
